Southern Mongolian activist Hada has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Known for his decades-long resistance to Chinese repression, Hada has become a powerful symbol of peaceful struggle for the rights and identity of Mongolians in Southern Mongolia. This nomination brings global attention to a cause long ignored.
More than 100 human rights organisations from across the globe have issued an urgent appeal for the immediate release of Mr Hada, a prominent Southern Mongolian dissident who disappeared under suspicious circumstances following hospitalisation by Chinese authorities.
Mr Hada, who has endured over 30 years of persecution, was last seen on 6 February 2025 when he was taken to hospital for an alleged “urgent medical condition.” His current whereabouts and condition remain unknown, prompting serious concerns about enforced disappearance and state abuse.

Silent Erasure: The CCP's Assimilation Tactics in Southern Mongolia
Unlike Tibet or East Turkestan, Southern Mongolia rarely makes global headlines. Instead of mass detentions and visible repression, the Chinese Communist Party employs subtle tactics—bureaucratic policies, economic incentives, and slogans promoting unity and prosperity—to quietly erode Southern Mongolian identity. This gradual cultural suffocation is a form of ethnic cleansing disguised as progress, known as assimilation by stealth, under the CCP's ideology of "中华民族共同体意识" (sense of a unified Chinese national identity).
